The joys of dealing with this xerox workcentre pro 3545

Wow. What to say about this one.

Machine jams paper in doors along the paper path, but prints fine (just a little crinkled) in the bypass tray. Jams occurred in the same spot each time in area 1. Area 3's door was out of alignment but we focused on the rear of the machine although this approach proved to be the wrong one. I went back to focusing on the door to area 3, which I then fixed (!), and I ran a copy and it didn't jam on area 1-4's doors anymore: it jammed in the finisher transport this time, and requests a power cycle. The same transport which allowed the bypass to print earlier. Now the machine just freezes and claims that the Fuser is warming up, yet the machine does *nothing* for 20 minutes straight, whether printing from bypass or paper tray.

This is where we're at, and it keeps taking us around and around and around....

-- SAVE THE INTERNET --

NET NEUTRALITY ROARING IN UNDER NEW FCC CHAIRMAN
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski's advocacy for Net Neutrality isn't a surprise, but the swiftness and aggressiveness he has already shown are a big surprise. We could see some sweeping changes in the wireless industry in a rather short period of time.
Lynnette Luna, Fierce Broadband Wireless

INTERNET PROTECTION FIGHT STARTS IN WASHINGTON -- DON'T JUST SIT THERE
The Obama administration has been talking about an open Internet for months. Now the idea is getting some traction, with the FCC calling attention to Apple's rejection of Google Voice and a new Net Neutrality bill in Congress. Everyone who wants a free and open Internet -- students, business people, musicians, writers and mechanics and everyone else -- must speak up now.
Art Brodsky, Huffington Post

APPLE DEMONSTRATES THE NEED FOR NET NEUTRALITY -- NOW
Some causes are worth fighting for, and Net Neutrality is one of them. A bill was recently introduced in Congress that would require ISPs not to "block, interfere with, discriminate against, impair, or degrade Internet access." Congress has shot down similar measures twice before. This time, we should make it stick.

REGULATORS RETHINK APPROACH TO ONLINE PRIVACY
Regulators are rethinking their approach to online privacy and security, asking academics, public interest groups and industry to suggest ways to overhaul rules to better protect consumers, whether they're sharing photos on social networks, using cell phone applications to find nearby restaurants or shopping online.

THE BIG PHONE COMPANIES' HYPOCRISY
Exclusive deals by the largest phone companies are generating controversy in the communications world, and they should have you worried, too. Whether they limit access to TV content or network options for wireless handsets, exclusive deals by dominant companies mean less choice for consumers.

IRAQ MULLS WEB SITE BAN, FUELS CENSORSHIP FEARS
Iraq is considering blocking Web sites deemed pornographic or that incite violence or crime, triggering fears of a return to Saddam Hussein-style state censorship and government propaganda. Iraq's Interior Ministry said it was looking into blocking sites that are connected to crimes such as money laundering, robbery, prostitution, bomb-making and terrorism.

FCC WORKSHOPS TO CAST WIDE NET FOR BROADBAND DATA, USE CASES
The FCC will cast a wide net in crafting a national broadband plan, Chairman Julius Genachowski told staff during an open meeting in preparation for the first of several workshops on use cases for crafting the plan. The commission is "looking for everyone's ideas," Genachowski said.

FCC CHAIR GETS SERIOUS ABOUT BROADBAND PLAN
Spurred by a congressional mandate and backed by some serious cash from the stimulus plan, newly named FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has been evangelizing about the need for broadband speed. Genachowski needs to meet terms of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that call for the FCC to submit a national broadband plan to Congress by Feb. 16, 2010.

-- JOURNALISM & BEYOND --

MR. PRESIDENT, HELP SAVE THE NEWS
Public broadcasters can and should play a major role in tackling journalism's crisis. But there's a problem: Underfunded media like NPR and PBS need an upgrade before they can move into the digital age. It's time to put our public media system under the microscope -- not to tear organizations like NPR and PBS down, but to prop them up.

THIS IS RUPERT'S LAST STAND: MAKING YOU PAY
News Corp. has posted the biggest losses in its history. In response, Rupert Murdoch -- who as recently as a year ago had yet to go, unassisted, onto the Internet -- announced that he would shortly make his newspapers available online only if readers pay for them. He's swimming against the tide.

MURDOCH NEWSPAPER SITES TO START CHARGING BY NEXT SUMMER
Rupert Murdoch says all his news Web sites will start charging for access as of next summer. The News Corp. boss claims the days of free access to news must come to an end. "Quality journalism is not cheap," Murdoch claims. "We intend to charge for all our news websites."

NONPROFIT GLOBE NO EASY FIX
One of the bidders for the Boston Globe is looking at a "civic approach" in which a nonprofit organization would be used to help own and run the newspaper. But experts say switching from a for-profit owner to a nonprofit overseer is not as easy as it looks.

OBAMA, THROW A LIFELINE TO BLACK AND HISPANIC RADIO
Minority radio stations aren't failing businesses begging for handouts; they're healthy enterprises, beset by a perfect storm of bad circumstances, that are in need of a lifeline. At a time when millions of minorities need information and opportunities to get jobs and build businesses, let's not pull the plug on black and Hispanic radio.

SENATE HEARS ROYALTY DEBATE PITTING BIG CONTENT VS. BIG RADIO
The debate over whether terrestrial radio stations should have to pay royalties to artists continues in the Senate. Broadcasters argue that the royalties would cripple the industry while music labels, artists, and even webcasters said that they should be required to even the playing field and help out up-and-coming musicians.

MEASURING THE RESULTS OF AN AD, RIGHT DOWN TO THE CITY BLOCK
The people who buy media have found their jobs more complicated lately, what with all the new ways of measuring response -- how many people clicked, clipped a coupon or made a purchase after seeing an ad. Buying local media adds another layer of complication.

PRISON CELL JAMMING BILL CLOSE TO SENATE PASSAGE
The nation's prisons are one big step closer to being allowed to jam mobile phone signals to keep prisoners from using the phones to commit further crimes, despite strong opposition from digital rights groups that say there are better ways to fight the problem. NO MORE PERKS: COFFEE SHOPS PULL THE PLUG ON LAPTOP USERS
Amid the economic downturn, there are fewer places in New York to plug in computers.
